Facts About Seahorses

Seahorses are very interesting. Seahorses are not a fish. They are 1-12 inches long. There are 32 different kinds of seahorses. They are many different sizes and colors to blend in with their surroundings. They change colors all the time. Seashore have long snouts. There is an eye on each side of their head.

Seahorses can look at two different places at the same time. They have a fin and tail that they use to swim with. They curl their tail around things to stay in one place.

A seahorse has many babies at one time. The male seahorse has the babies. He keeps the babies in his pouch. This only takes 2-6 weeks. They have 5-1000 babies at a time.

Seahorses don't have many predators. If something eats them they spit them out because they are so crunchy. Young seahorses can be eaten by flounders and fish that swims near the bottom.
A seahorse lives in warm shallow water. Seahorses only live in saltwater.

Seahorse have no teeth. They suck up food with their long snout and swallow it whole. They do not have a stomach.
